Work Hard, Play Hard

Makensie Jackson, Human Resources Assistant

Here at AMR we like to bring a little fun to the workplace by planning activities and celebrations. We recognize that our employees work hard and we want them to have fun while doing so.

When you’re located in the heart of Big Blue Nation, March Madness is almost considered a holiday to most and the celebration goes on as long as the Kentucky Wildcats remain in the tournament. This year we celebrated March Madness with a bracket challenge where each employee was randomly assigned a team participating in the tournament and he/she won a gift card if their team was the tournament champion. There were also casual days throughout the weeks where employees could wear their favorite teams attire and we wrapped up the celebration with a “slam dunk” milk and cookies treat.

We also love to eat so we take every opportunity to celebrate holidays with food! We recognized National Pi Day (03.14) with pies from a local pie shop for everyone to enjoy as an afternoon snack. And, of course, we celebrated Cinco de Mayo with a lunch party! We festively decorated our large conference room, set up a burrito bar, and gave away door prizes. We also did a friendly salsa competition where employees could bring in homemade salsa and everyone voted on their favorite ones. And, we also want to make sure that our employees that work from remote office locations and not our Lexington headquarters get in on the fun too. For example, we sent them a “fiesta” box with a gift card they can use to enjoy lunch in their city while we had our party back at HQ.

One of our staff favorites are our chair massage days. A few times a year we bring offer chair massages to reward everyone’s hard work. Usually, these fall just after a busy conference season, which is not only well-received but well-earned!

In 2017 we recognized AMR’s 20th anniversary, which gave us a special reason for a big celebration. Employees from the Lexington office and our remote locations celebrated with a happy hour that included socializing, appetizers and even a selfie station.

It is always a blast to celebrate holidays and special occasions but also recognizing our employees hard work and dedication with these fun activities!
