In hundreds of blogs, case studies, and other hyperbole on social media, there is one idea that has continuously been in the echoes of these conversations: relationships. While social media has allowed us to have more relationships and connect with others more than ever before, have we been able to fully leverage these new relationships or have we just increased our number of contacts?
In Mark Athitakis’ article “People First: The Key to Social Media Strategy” he shares with us his insightful interview with David Nour, social media strategist and the author of Relationship Economics.
In this article, Mark and David have a candid discussion exploring areas such as:
- the effectiveness of social media for associations
- how associations can engage with a group that’s already created itself
- the tools that are worth your time and money, and
- indentifying key players in your networks and membership
They close the article by suggesting that people fundamentally gather for two reasons; one is content and the other is community. Are your social media efforts offering your members these two basic components or just adding to their list of contacts?
