2009 March for Babies - AMR Team
AMR utilizes a dedicated in-house community involvement task force, comprised of six employees that plan two formal fundraising initiatives each year (March of Dimes and Toys for Tots), and facilitate AMR’s ongoing volunteer and fundraising initiatives for other local charities. AMR Management Services encourages employees to perform volunteer work by allowing them to plan and execute community service and fundraising activities during working hours, on company time. Employees are also encouraged to serve on non-profit boards (and allowed to use company time to do so) and to participate as members of non-profit associations that engage in community stewardship. For example, one of AMR’s employees currently serves as a board member of Connect Kentucky, a non-profit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of technology in support of community and economic development, improved healthcare, enhanced education and more effective government. Some examples of community and volunteer activities that AMR Management Services and its employees engage in include:
- Fundraising for March of Dimes—Fundraising for March of Dimes – AMR and its 33 employees raised $2,300 for the 2009 March of Dimes campaign pushing their total contribution to the organization over $20,000. AMR staff raised funds through an internal company-wide auction, a chili luncheon, bake sales, the purchase of “casual attire days” and employee walk participation. More than 20 people and 4 dogs turned out to support the AMR team in the 2009 March for Babies walk on April 25, 2009.
- Fundraising and Shopping, Toys for Tots—AMR and its employees are also committed to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program, which collects and distributes new, unwrapped toys to needy children in the community. AMR and its employees have donated 325 toys over the past two years for the local Toys for Tots effort
- AMR and its employees collect travel-size toiletries for the Hope Center, a local homeless shelter, on an ongoing basis and distribute them throughout the year.
- AMR and its employees collect tabs from soda cans to support the Ronald McDonald house, which provides a “home away from home” for families of seriously ill children seeking treatment in the area.
- AMR has made cash donations to the Lexington Police FOP#4 Shop with a Cop Program, the Special Olympics, the Children’s Wish Foundation, UK Children’s Hospital and the Kentucky Horse Park Foundation over the past year.
- AMR employees have initiated a recycling program in AMR’s workspace within the Chase Building in Downtown Lexington.
- AMR has sponsored youth programs within the past year including the Lafayette High School Band and a Southwest Lexington PONY youth baseball team.
